Areas of
Innovation
We know that there are numerous areas of innovation for both ADCs and bispecific antibodies, with plenty of overlap between them. The drivers include developing ever more therapeutic potential and precision in targeting, as well as achieving control during the manufacture of these complex products.
Target selection will be the first step in the design of an ADC or bispecific antibody, although it is far from the end of the story. Optimisation requires numerous different design decisions, each of which can affect the activity and which can interact with each other in unexpected ways. We consider a number of these below.
In some cases, innovation in the individual elements may also give rise to new platform technologies which can be applied to many different potential molecules.
Alternatively, skill and innovation may be applied to choose the right combination of elements to make a particular molecule highly effective in its specific biological context.
Either may potentially be the subject of patent protection, with an appropriate scope to protect the invention.
